Easy School Lunches for Kids

Easy School Lunches for Kids

With school back in session comes the jump back into routine and need for daily lunches for your kids. We know that kids come with all sorts of eating preferences, likelihood to eat (or not), changes by the day (or hour) of whether they'll eat a certain food group, and the like. So we know that making kids lunches for school is not a one-size-feeds all. Regardless, we wanted to share of few of our co-founder Erica's favorite go-to lunch ideas for her kids.

1. Roll-up Wraps

An easy variant on the traditional sandwich!

How To Make:

  1. Mix and match proteins and spreads
  2. Roll into tortilla or wrap of choice
  3. Wrap in foil

Ingredient Ideas

  • Chicken salad with leftover chicken, chopped celery, half mayo half yogurt

  • Turkey, cheese, hummus, spinach

  • Ground chicken or beef, your favorite Trader Joe’s spread

2. Bento Boxes

Lunchable style - but make it nutritious!

"The great thing about this is you can change it up daily or weekly, and the kids are getting the nutrients of a balanced meal while enjoying the fun of snacks!”

Combo Ideas:

  • Rolled up turkey, string cheese, carrot sticks, crackers, cookie

  • (Sneaky) green muffins, banana, nut butter, chocolate raisins

  • Salami, cheese cubes, edamame, sliced apples, pretzels

  • Egg muffins, rice cakes with nut butter or hummus, carrot sticks, brownie

3. Leftovers!

I’ve learned we don’t always need to reinvent the wheel. If my kids enjoyed a pasta or chicken dish for dinner, then I put a serving in a small container for their lunch the next day with a keep-cold pack. Very convenient and efficient!

"Don’t forget the fork!"

Erica’s Tip: Pack the ‘supporting cast’ of a lunch for the week ahead of time. Prep snacks and sides on Sunday, seal in bags with their name on it, store in fridge (if needed). Come Thursday morning, I’m so happy when I can reach for their pre-set bags!

*This is especially helpful if any of your kids have eating intolerances! Separating the GF snacks etc from the others is one less thing to think about on a school day.

We hope this is helpful for your family! Looking to support your kids' immune systems now that back to school sniffles are somewhat inevitable?
